2019-5-10

The lady owner of Kong Fung Remit Exchange, a money changer located on Portland Street, Mong Kok received a call earlier from a man who requested to buy HK$35 million Hong Kong Dollars. The owner then made an appointment to meet the man today at her shop.

During their meeting, the woman sensed something was amiss and she exercised extra vigilance by conducting further due diligence on the transaction and source of fund. The man responded hesitantly and left by giving an excuse.

The woman immediately reported the incident to police who later examined the CCTV footage to identify the man.

In 2017, a money changer was scammed by a conman in TST. The man requested to exchange US$1.74 million into Renminbi. He then 'deposited' the total sum via cheques into the designated bank account as requested by the money changer. He then sent photos of the counterfeit bank-in slips to the money changer and made off with HK$9.47 million Hong Kong dollars.
