Four people were in police custody on Tuesday after being arrested in connection with the seizure of HK$520,000 (US$66,330) in fake banknotes, two imitation handguns and two knives during a police raid on a Hong Kong flat.

The two men – a Pakistani national, 48, and a Bangladeshi, 39 – and two Filipino women aged 43 and 47 were found at the address on Tung Chau Street in Sham Shui Po when officers raided it at around 7pm on Monday.

"Inside the flat, 520 counterfeit banknotes in denominations of HK$1,000 were seized, along with two knives and two imitation guns," police said in a statement.

The 47-year-old woman is the holder of Hong Kong identity card and the other three suspects have recognisance forms. The form is an identification document, which prohibits its holder from taking employment.

The four were arrested on suspicion of possessing counterfeit banknotes, offensive weapons and imitation firearms. Imitation guns can refer to toy guns, air guns or guns used in war games.

As an investigation was still continuing, police said they did not rule out the possibility that further arrests would be made.

As of midday on Tuesday, the suspects were being held for questioning and none of them had been charged.

Officers from the Kowloon West regional crime unit were handling the case.
