The manager of a currency exchange shop lost HK$960,000 in cash to at least six robbers in a well-planned heist outside the MTR station in Wan Chai, Apple Daily reported on Tuesday.

The 61-year-old victim, surnamed Tse, withdrew the money from a branch of Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. on Hennessy Road around 3 p.m. Monday. Tse stuffed the cash in a tote bag, and placed the bag inside his backpack.

A police review of the footage from the bank’s surveillance camera showed that the robbers were divided into two groups.

As Tse walked out of the bank, two of the suspects pretended to fall on the ground, while another one tried to steal the money from Tse’s backpack but failed.

As the victim was walking about 100 meters from exit B2 of the MTR station, two other suspects approached and grabbed the tote bag inside his backpack before fleeing.

Tse called the police immediately.

Twenty officers from the Police Tactical Unit were deployed around the area to look for the suspects. No arrest have been made yet.
